- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sourdough discard
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Combine dry ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sourdough discard, salt, sugar, and instant yeast until well-blended.
- Add warm water: Gradually pour in the warm water while mixing until the dough begins to form.
- Knead the dough: Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Shape the buns: Divide the dough into 6 or 8 portions and shape each into a smooth ball.
- Proof the buns: Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Egg wash and seeds: Brush tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
- Bake to perfection: Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool and slice: Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
For meal prep, shape the buns and refrigerate overnight. Avoid over-kneading and ensure to use warm water.
