Description
Enjoy the smoky-sweet flavors of Huli Huli Chicken that brings a taste of Hawaii to your table.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs chicken thighs (bone-in, skin-on)
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup pineapple juice
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Marinade: In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, pineapple juice, vegetable oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, and black pepper. Whisk together until the ingredients meld into a unified marinade.
- Marinate the Chicken: Transfer the chicken thighs into a large ziplock bag. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring every piece is well-coated. Seal the bag tightly, squeezing out as much air as possible to lock in flavor. Refrigerate for at least two hours—overnight is even better for optimal flavor infusion.
- Preheat the Grill: When ready to cook, ignite the grill and preheat it to medium-high heat.
- Grill the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting the excess drip off before discarding it. Place the chicken on the grill, cooking for about 6-8 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and char marks are visible.
- Rest and Garnish: Remove the chicken from the grill and allow it to rest for a few minutes. Just before serving, garnish with finely chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
Notes
Marinate the chicken overnight for the best flavor and avoid overcrowding the grill for even cooking.
