Description

Rich, gooey brownies infused with sourdough discard for a unique twist on a classic treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough starter (discard)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch brownie pan.
  2. Mix the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth and glossy.
  3. Add the sourdough starter, eggs, and vanilla extract; stir until combined.
  4. Whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, and salt in another bowl.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips, if using.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth it out to distribute evenly.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing into squares.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or freeze for longer storage.
