Description

Homemade Sourdough Cheez-Its that offer a crispy texture and rich cheesy flavor, perfect for gatherings and snack time.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 cup cold butter, cubed
  • Water (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine the sourdough discard, shredded cheddar cheese, flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder in a mixing bowl. Stir until all ingredients are well mixed.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add water gradually, mixing until the dough comes together.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick.
  6. Cut the dough into squares or your desired shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the crackers are crispy.
  8. Let cool before enjoying.

Notes

For a make-ahead option, prepare the dough and chill for up to two days. Air fryer cooking is also an option.
