Description

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup warm water (100°F to 110°F)
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup melted butter with 2 cloves minced garlic for brushing

Instructions

  1. Combine yeast and sugar in a small bowl, adding warm water; let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Sift together flour and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add yeast mixture and melted butter to flour mixture; stir until combined.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Roll out the dough and cut into strips about 1 inch wide.
  8. Arrange on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Brush warm breadsticks with melted garlic butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

Notes

For a vegan option, substitute unsalted butter with olive oil and omit or replace Parmesan cheese with plant-based alternatives. Feel free to customize with herbs for added flavor.
