Instructions
- Combine the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, mix 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of instant yeast, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of sugar until well-blended.
- Add wet ingredients: Pour in 1 1/2 cups of warm water and 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to combine until the dough begins to come together.
- Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for approximately 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Rise the dough: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 60 minutes or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the oven: As the dough rises, preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
- Prepare the sauce: In a saucepan, gently heat the 28-ounce can of crushed tomatoes, adding 2 teaspoons of dried oregano, salt, and pepper to taste. Let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes.
- Shape the dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently and transfer it to a greased baking pan, spreading it out evenly.
- Assemble your pizza: Spread the prepared sauce generously over the dough, then shower with 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake to perfection: Slide your pizza into the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until the crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbling.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from oven, allow to cool slightly, and garnish with fresh basil. Slice and enjoy!
