Description
A delightful bread with a soft crumb, infused with honey and whole wheat, perfect for sandwiches and toasting.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 1/2 cups sourdough starter (active and bubbly)
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, rolled oats, and salt until well mixed.
- In another bowl, whisk the sourdough starter, warm water, honey, and olive oil until the honey dissolves completely.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 4-6 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) when you’re ready to bake.
- Gently punch down the risen dough to release air. Shape it into a loaf.
- Place the shaped loaf in a greased loaf pan. Cover it loosely for another 1-2 hours, or until it puffs up beautifully.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
Notes
Consider preparing the dough the day before for a more developed flavor.
