Description

A delightful bread with a soft crumb, infused with honey and whole wheat, perfect for sandwiches and toasting.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 1/2 cups sourdough starter (active and bubbly)
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, rolled oats, and salt until well mixed.
  2. In another bowl, whisk the sourdough starter, warm water, honey, and olive oil until the honey dissolves completely.
  3. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 4-6 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) when you’re ready to bake.
  7. Gently punch down the risen dough to release air. Shape it into a loaf.
  8. Place the shaped loaf in a greased loaf pan. Cover it loosely for another 1-2 hours, or until it puffs up beautifully.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  10. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
