Description

A classic French dessert, the Chocolate Yule Log (Bûche de Noël) is a rich chocolate cake rolled with a creamy filling, decorated to resemble a log.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for filling)
  • Chocolate shavings (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a jelly roll pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake cool slightly, then invert onto a clean kitchen towel dusted with powdered sugar.
  8. Roll the cake with the towel and let it cool completely.
  9. Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  10. Unroll the cake, spread the whipped cream filling, and re-roll the cake.
  11. Frost the outside with remaining whipped cream and decorate with chocolate shavings.
