Description

Chai-Spiced Apple Babka is a delightful twist on the traditional babka, infused with warm chai spices and filled with sweet apple filling, making it a perfect treat for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 cups apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix warm milk, melted butter, and eggs.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth, then let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  5. In the meantime, prepare the apple filling by mixing diced apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, and spices in a bowl.
  6. Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a rectangle and spread the apple filling evenly over it.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut it in half lengthwise.
  8. Twist the two halves together and place in a greased loaf pan.
  9. Let the babka rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of vanilla extract to the dough.
  • Feel free to substitute the apples with pears or other fruits.
  • This babka can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
