Description

Bacon-Onion Southern Tomato Pie is a delicious and savory dish that combines the rich flavors of bacon and onions with fresh tomatoes, all baked in a flaky crust.


Ingredients

  • 1 pie crust
  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cups fresh tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions in the bacon grease until translucent.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked bacon, sautéed onions, sliced tomatoes, cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, and basil.
  5. Pour the mixture into the pie crust and spread evenly.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
  7. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
