Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 cups diced apples
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: Warm the milk gently until about 110°F (43°C), sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it stand for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Create the dough: Combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl. Add softened butter, then pour in the warmed milk and yeast mixture. Knead until a soft dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with a towel and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the filling: Mix diced apples with brown sugar, additional cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  5. Roll the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle and spread the apple mixture evenly over it. Roll it tightly into a log.
  6. Cut the log into 1-2 inch rolls and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  7. Let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes and preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk for the glaze. Drizzle over warm rolls.

Notes

For make-ahead options, prepare up to the second rise and refrigerate overnight. Let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before baking.
